| | Catalog RIC I 33 BMC 36 | Emperor : Caligula
| | Weight : 21.51gr | Content : Bronze
| | Size : 38mm | | | Condemnation | | | Auctioneer's note "The tyn type (RIC I 33; BMC I 36) enjoyed the interest of humanists already in the 15th century, and in the mid-16th century the excellent medalist from Padua, Giovanni da Cavino (1500-1570) made its excellent copy. It is very difficult to distinguish it from the original, because both in collections (private, but also public) and on the antique market, Paduans of very different quality circulate - from early, often minted, to ze, corazón, weaker casts. Here we are dealing with Cavin's work in its original version - this coin differs from the antique sesterce in minor details of style (Caligula's eyebrow arch, details of the sisters' robes, the shape of the letters of the legends), but it is still an excellent example of an all 'antica medal and a testament to the skill of the sixteenth-century medalist." | |
