| | Upper left coin was Host to create fake dies./
Künker piece was withdrawn (Erratum F) after I have notified them.
Host coin has at about 6 o'clock on the obverse a small flan split. There is a cluster of tiny ones to the sided of it, but this one is larger than all other others.
Now look at any of the fakes (or all of them) and you will see a faint mark on them at that exact spot, corresponds to that split. That results from the false impression die capturing the surface features of that split. The feature is tiny, and not obvious, but if you look it is there on all of them. This is proof of a false impression die, because the "captured" split was a striking feature and was never part of the original die. It cannot be on the other coins as a result of a re-cut original die. |
